Abstract: As a common disease in orthopedic field, osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) has a very high disability rate, which significantly affects the life quality of patients. Therefore, early prevention and treatment of ONFH is particularly important. Exosomes are vesicles secreted by cells, containing lipids, proteins and nucleic acids. Their diameters are about 30-100 nm in general. Accumulated evidences show that exosomes play important roles on the regulation of local microenvironment that facilitate tissue repair. The present review
mainly focused on the general biological characteristics of exosomes and the present research progress of exosomes derived from different cells in the early prevention and treatment of ONFH.
