With the development of the social economy
and the change of people's life styles, the incidence of intervertebral
disc degeneration (IDD) in China is increasing year by year. An early
research point of view is that the degeneration of the intervertebral
disc is caused by the ageing of the elderly population. However, in
recent years, the incidence of intervertebral disc degeneration has a
younger trend. It is urgent to find effective molecular targets for the
treatment of intervertebral disc degeneration. The circRNA is a kind of
noncoding RNA, which widely exists in different species and human cells,
and has high conservativeness and tissue specificity. This article
reviews the research progress on the formation and function of circRNA
and the role of circRNA in disc degeneration.
