  Abstract:

The chemokine SDF-1 (Stromal cell-derived factor-1) and its receptors CXC chemokine receptor 4 belong to CXC chemokines and the superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors respectively. Recent studies increasingly suggest that  SDF-1/CXCR4 signal pathway plays important roles in articular cartilage degeneration of osteoarthritis (OA) . CXCR4 antagonists inhibit SDF-1 to bind with CXCR4, further to block the conduction of the signal pathway and prevent the degeneration of cartilage in OA. This review made an in-depth analysis on the current situation of the cartilage degeneration between CXCR4 antagonists and OA, aim to provide a new target medicine for prevention and treatment of OA.
